Eid al-Adha (Feast of the Sacrifice)

Eid al-Adha is an Islamic feast that remembers the time when the Prophet Abraham almost sacrificed his own son. This feast begins right after the Islamic holy week of Hajj. This is a large family holiday where families will come and spend time together eating food. Each family is meant to purchase a sheep or goat of their own. They will then slaughter the animal giving portions of the meat to the poor. They will use the rest to eat with their family. These shots were taken at a field that was designated for the sacrifices being done in Amman. I hope you enjoy the pictures.

A Sheep that has just been bled out. It peacefully went to sleep.

Organs and pelts being put into piles while men butcher the meat.
